§ 1-11. Corporate limits—Basic description.

  • The corporate limits of the city as fixed and established by the state legislature, shall embrace and include all of the territory and lands lying within the following described boundaries:

    Beginning at the mouth of Beech Creek; thence run in a northeasterly direction with the meanderings of said creek to a point due south of the southwest corner of block 8 of the A. H. Murray estate subdivision, according to the map of said subdivision recorded in map book 1, page 174, in the probate office of Dallas County, Alabama; thence run north to intersect with a line 550 feet south of and parallel to the center line of the Selma-Burnsville Highway, (said distance measured at right angles to said highway); thence run in a northeasterly direction along said line parallel to the center of said highway and 550 feet therefrom to the east line of the west half of section 28, township 17 north, range 11 east; thence run north along the east line of the west half of section 28, township 17 north, range 11 east, to intersect with a line 550 feet north of and parallel to the center line of the Southern Railway right-of-way, (said distance measured at right angles to said right-of-way); thence run in a southwesterly direction along said line parallel to the center of said right-of-way and 550 feet therefrom to intersect with a line projected east and in line with the north margin of Second Avenue, if the same were extended; thence run west along said projection of the north margin of Second Avenue to the east margin of Mechanic Street; thence run west along the north margin of Second Avenue to a point in line with the west margin of Oliver Street, if the same were projected north; thence run north along said projected west margin of Oliver Street to a point 1,397 feet south of the south margin of Alabama Highway No. 14; thence run south 88 degrees 40 minutes east and parallel to said highway for 320.7 feet; thence run north 1 degree 52 minutes east and parallel to Range Street for 1,397 feet to the south margin of said highway; thence run north 88 degrees 40 minutes west along said highway margin for 1,777.9 feet to the east margin of Range Street; thence run south 46 degrees 36 minutes west along said street margin for 139.1 feet; thence run at right angles to and across Range Street for 60 feet to the west margin of said street; thence run north along the west margin of Range Street, (Range Line Road), to the north line of section 24, township 17 north, range 10 east; thence run east along the north line of section 24, township 17 north, range 10 east, and continuing along the south line of section 18, township 17 north, range 11 east, to the east line of the west half of section 18, township 17 north, range 11 east; thence run north along the east line of the west half of section 18, township 17 north, range 11 east, to the north line of the south half of section 18, township 17 north, range 11 east; thence run west along the north line of the south half of section 18, township 17 north, range 11 east, to the east margin of Norwood Drive, (old Selma-Birmingham Highway); thence run in a southwesterly direction along the east margin of Norwood Drive to the east margin of Alabama Highway No. 22; thence run in a southwesterly direction along the east margin of Alabama Highway No. 22 to the north line of section 24, township 17 north, range 10 east; thence run west along the north line of section 24, township 17 north, range 10 east, and continuing along the north line of section 23, township 17 north, range 10 east, to the west line of section 23, township 17 north, range 10 east; thence run south along the west line of section 23, township 17 north, range 10 east, to a point 662.4 feet north of the north margin of U.S. Highway 80; thence run north 83 degrees 41 minutes west and parallel to said highway for 1,183.1 feet; thence run at right angles south 6 degrees 19 minutes west for 778 feet to the south margin of U.S. Highway No. 80; thence run north 83 degrees 41 minutes west along said highway margin for 350 feet; thence turn an angle to the left of 79 degrees 00 minutes and run south 17 degrees 19 minutes west to the center line of the Felix Road; thence run in a southwesterly direction to the northwest corner of the east half of section 27, township 17 north, range 10 east; thence run south along the west line of the east half of section 27 to the south right-of-way line of the Southern Railway; thence run in a westerly direction along said right-of-way line to the west line of the east half of section 28, township 17 north, range 10 east; thence run south along the west line of the east half of section 28, township 17 north, range 10 east, and continuing along the west line of the east half of section 33, township 17 north, range 10 east, and continuing along the west line of the east half of section 4, township 16 north, range 10 east, to intersect with a line 530 feet north of and parallel to the center line of the Old Selma-Orrville Road, (said distance measured at right angles to said road); thence run in a southwesterly direction along said line parallel to the center of the Old Selma-Orrville Road and 530 feet therefrom to intersect with a line 330 feet east of and parallel to the center line of the Land Line Road, (said distance measured at right angles to said road); thence run in a northwesterly and northerly direction along said line parallel to the center of the Land Line Road and 330 feet therefrom to the north line of the southwest quarter of the northeast quarter of section 5, township 16 north, range 10 east; thence run west along said line for 822 feet, more or less, to the northwest corner of lot 1, according to the map of Fairforest Subdivision recorded in map book 3, at page 34, in said probate office; thence run south 12 degrees 10 minutes east along the west boundaries of lots 1, 2, and 3, and a projection of said line, to the south margin of Fairforest Drive; thence run north 71 degrees 19 minutes east along said south margin for 162.3 feet to the northwest corner of lot 4 of the Fairforest Subdivision; thence run south 19 degrees 56 minutes east along the west boundaries of lots 4, 5, and 6, to the southwest corner of lot 6; thence run north 71 degrees 19 minutes east along the south line of lot 6 to the west margin of the Land Line Road; thence run in a southeasterly direction along the west margin of said road, and a projection of said line, to the east margin of the Old Selma-Orrville Road; thence run in a southerly direction along the east margin of said road to the north line of the Louisville and Nashville Railroad right-of-way; thence run in a northeasterly direction along said right-of-way line for 1,650 feet; thence run south 27 degrees 00 minutes east to the south bank, (low water mark), of the Alabama River; thence run in an easterly direction along the south bank, (low water mark), of the Alabama River to a point due south of the mouth of Beech Creek; thence run north to the mouth of Beech Creek, to the point of beginning.
